Chapter 102: The Junk Hummer (Add to Bookshelf to Avoid Losing the Book)
Hua Tianyu could not fathom where the driver of the Hummer opposite him got such inexplicable confidence. Did they really think a vehicle traveling in the proper lane would simply yield to them?
Hua Tianyu was a former elite soldier, a "King of Soldiers." The duty of a Chinese soldier was to protect, but what exactly were they protecting? It was the peace and tranquility of China. And what was the foundation of that peace? It was the rule of law. Without rules, there is no order. A Chinese soldier upholds these rules and guards this peace.
Therefore, Hua Tianyu acted according to the rules: he did not yield to the Hummer. Rules are meant to be followed, not trampled upon.
Zhuang Wei, however, did not see it that way. Seeing that the pink Jaguar remained indifferent to his blaring horn, his temper flared. He had woken up late and run into traffic, jeopardizing his chance to be the first to arrive at the "headliner selection" of the rave party. If not for the cleverness of his driver, Wang Xingsheng, he would have surely failed. If he arrived last, it would be one thing to pay the bill, but having to settle for whatever was left over after everyone else had made their picks? That would be a blow to his pride as Young Master Zhuang.
Speaking of pride, his modified Hummer was somewhat famous in Shangjiang City. Who wouldn't give him a little face when they saw it? Shouldn't the person opposite him yield? There were very few people in Shangjiang City who dared to slight him.
"Damn it, this guy has a death wish!" Zhuang Wei cursed bitterly.
Seeing Zhuang Wei’s fury, Wang Xingsheng slammed his hand against the horn on the steering wheel once more and growled, "This car really doesn't know its place, daring to block a vehicle from the Zhuang Group!"
The Zhuang Group was a well-known first-tier enterprise in Shangjiang. While perhaps not quite reaching the level of ultra-tier corporations like the Qiu Group, they certainly didn't look down on others in the Shangjiang Chamber of Commerce, such as the Lu Group. However, he could guarantee that the car opposite them was neither from the Qiu Group nor belonged to any major power player. He knew the cars of the city’s notable figures, and the license plate on this Jaguar was nothing special. Clearly, the owner was just an ordinary person.
"Get out of the car and make him move!" Zhuang Wei ordered his driver.
"Understood, Young Master Zhuang, just a moment!" The driver jumped out of the car. After taking two steps, he returned to open the door and grabbed a telescopic baton he had stashed by the driver’s seat. "Young Master Zhuang, wait here. I’ll teach this blind fool a lesson and be right back!" Wang Xingsheng said to Zhuang Wei in the backseat before slamming the door shut.
With a furrowed brow and a stern face, Wang Xingsheng hid the baton behind his back and marched aggressively toward Hua Tianyu’s car. *Kid, blocking someone’s path to wealth is like killing their parents!* Young Master Zhuang had promised a bonus if they were the first to arrive, and now this guy was blocking that path. If he didn't teach him a lesson today, he would change his surname!
Seeing his menacing demeanor, the drivers of the cars ahead, who had already pulled over, quickly rolled up their windows.
"Who is that guy getting out of the car? Do you know him?"
"I don't know, but I recognize the car. It’s Zhuang Wei’s from the Zhuang Group. That Hummer is notorious for its arrogance in Shangjiang."
"Right, no one without a strong backing would dare drive like that."
"I hope that Jaguar is okay."
"Heh, unlikely. Anyone who dares to lock horns with Zhuang Wei usually ends up with a smashed windshield at the very least."
In a taxi nearby, the passenger and driver chatted. While they detested the Hummer for driving against traffic and causing a jam, there was little a small-time taxi driver and a corporate office worker could do other than grumble.
A few steps from the Jaguar, Wang Xingsheng pointed at Hua Tianyu in the driver's seat and shouted, "Are you tired of living, kid? Do you know who you’re facing?"
Hua Tianyu rolled down his window and said calmly, "I don't know who is on the other side, I only know that you are in the wrong lane and driving against traffic!"
Sitting in the Hummer, Zhuang Wei heard his driver speak and leaned out the window to see who exactly dared to block his path.
"It really is Zhuang Wei!" Someone in a nearby car recognized the famous rich kid of Shangjiang. "That Jaguar is unlucky. Even if they recognize Zhuang Wei now, it’s too late to move!"
"Good thing we pulled over early, or we’d be getting our cars smashed today too!"
Recognizing Zhuang Wei made the onlookers feel even more helpless. This rich kid was not someone to be trifled with. While he might not be as notoriously evil as Qiu Jinghao of the Qiu Group, he was far from easy to deal with.
Hua Tianyu and Wei Xueying simultaneously saw the head poking out of the Hummer. Hua Tianyu remembered this guy well from the Fortune Hotel.
"It’s Zhuang Wei!" Wei Xueying also recognized him, her expression hardening with disgust.
"Heh, Xueying, leave the rest to me," Hua Tianyu said, squinting at the modified Hummer. In his eyes, this car was a piece of junk. The low center of gravity designed for safety had been ruined by the modifications, which raised the vehicle by over ten centimeters. The tungsten steel front grille looked tough, but it completely altered the vehicle's balance. A car's center of gravity is precisely calculated by designers based on the engine; only the original setup ensures the vehicle won't easily roll over in extreme conditions. The car looked fearsome, but its performance had actually plummeted.
"Hua Tianyu, don't do anything reckless! There are so many people here. If it comes to it, let's just let him pass," Wei Xueying said, worried as she watched the aggressive driver approaching.
"Don't worry, I’m a reasonable man," Hua Tianyu said with a gentle smile to comfort her. He left out the second half of that thought: sometimes, even he was afraid of how "reasonable" he could be.
Wang Xingsheng glanced back at his boss leaning out the window; he knew Young Master Zhuang was watching. "Bastard, still playing tough!" Under Zhuang Wei’s gaze, a rush of blood went to his head. If he dealt with this guy, there might be an even bigger bonus!
He decided to stop wasting words. He pulled the baton from behind his back and raised it high above his head. Breaking into a run, he intended to use the momentum and the weight of the baton to smash the head of the driver who was still sitting with his window down. He’d see if the guy would realize who was in the wrong lane after a taste of that! In Young Master Zhuang’s presence, the lane the Hummer occupied was the correct one. There was no such thing as driving against traffic—if you were in the way, *you* were the one in the wrong!
