The leader looked at Hao Yingjun as if watching a monkey perform. At that moment, the loudspeaker suddenly began to broadcast the weather report, leaving Hao Yingjun momentarily stunned.

The leader said, “Are you trying to insult me?”

He slowly walked toward Hao Yingjun, who was still awkwardly holding the loudspeaker, at a loss for what to do.

Hao Yingjun stammered, “No, no, no, it’s not like that, let me explain.”

He started fiddling nervously with the loudspeaker.

The leader sneered, “You bring me this pathetic loudspeaker to insult my intelligence? And you want to take me away? Where do you think you’re taking me? Go ahead, take me—I’d like to see where you think you can take me.”

Realizing the loudspeaker was useless, Hao Yingjun put it down.

“Brother, no, listen to me, brother—” Hao Yingjun pleaded.

The leader came over and grabbed him, trying to drag him outside.

“Put it down over there. Come on,” the leader ordered.

“Brother, please, just listen to me,” Hao Yingjun begged.

At that moment, Wang Zixuan’s voice rang out from outside.

“Hao Yingjun—ugh, what a disgusting name. Hao Yingjun!”

“Brother, please let me explain,” Hao Yingjun pleaded again.

Hearing someone call for Hao Yingjun, the leader flung him against the door and let go, turning to look outside.

Wang Zixuan walked in, giving Hao Yingjun a shove and a glare before turning her attention to the sofa.

“So, what’s this? Planning to escape, are you?” Wang Zixuan demanded.

Seeing she was a woman, the leader came over and tried to shoo her away.

“Hey, hey, hey, get in line if you’ve got business here,” he barked.

Wang Zixuan was already in a foul mood, and now someone dared to get in her way.

With a burst of a lion’s roar, she shouted, “Get out of my way!”

The leader was so startled he staggered back several steps.

Hao Yingjun gave an awkward laugh. “Ha, ha, I was just doing a bit of cleaning. New job and all.”

Wang Zixuan grabbed him by the collar. “I’ve been calling you for ages. Are you deaf? Why aren’t you answering? Why aren’t you at work?”

“It’s this old house, the signal’s always bad. Really bad signal,” Hao Yingjun replied.

Wang Zixuan rolled her eyes, then gave a mysterious smile.

“Bad signal, huh?” she repeated.

She pulled out her phone and dialed with one button. Within seconds, the sound came from the trash can. Wang Zixuan walked over and kicked the can aside, revealing the fitness tracker inside, which was still ringing. Xiao Si rummaged through the cabinets again.

“So this is what you call bad signal?” Wang Zixuan remarked.

“Ha ha, must’ve been Xiao Si again, messing with my things,” Hao Yingjun said sheepishly.

Wang Zixuan marched back over, grabbed Hao Yingjun, and started dragging him out.

“Enough with the nonsense,” she snapped.

The leader blocked the doorway, shouting, “Nobody move! You think you can play games with me?”

He pointed at Wang Zixuan. “This is the helper you brought? Trying to run, are you?”

Wang Zixuan shot Hao Yingjun a sidelong glance. “Who is this clown?”

“How should I put it?” Hao Yingjun said. “Let’s just say he’s not a good person.”

The leader jabbed a finger at Hao Yingjun. “Watch your mouth. Who are you calling a bad person?”

Wang Zixuan grabbed the leader’s finger and twisted it behind his back; there was a loud crack, followed by a howl of pain. Anyone watching would wince in sympathy.

“Trying to act tough with me, are you?” Wang Zixuan said.

“No, no,” the leader gasped.

Wang Zixuan flung him aside with one motion and continued dragging Hao Yingjun out. Just as they were about to leave, the leader stabbed a knife into the doorframe and blocked the doorway again.

“Stop right there!” he shouted.
