Chapter Ninety: Upholding Justice?
The geese cried, “Charge! Brothers, charge!”
With that, they all surged outward. Wang Zixuan and the other man went straight in to fight. Outside, goose feathers flew everywhere, and the great geese’s anguished cries rang out. But before long, Wang Zixuan was driven out by a flock of geese.
Wang Zixuan clapped his hands and got to his feet.
“Handsome, go block the door.”
Handsome scrambled up, shut the door, and braced it with his body. Wang Zixuan took the bag he had been carrying, swiftly assembled its contents, and before long a Remington shotgun had been put together.
“Only now you’re assembling weapons? Come on, big sister, can you hold it or not? I’m about to lose this! Hurry up! Help! I’m really about to lose it!”
Wang Zixuan then drew a lightsaber, leaving Handsome staring in shock.
“What the hell is this supposed to be?”
Wang Zixuan said, “Seen enough? Open the door.”
With a cool stride, Wang Zixuan walked inside, glanced around, and said in a calm, icy voice, “Shut the door. Not one of them gets away.”
Again came the cries of geese and the sounds of a struggle from within. Handsome was curious about what was happening inside. Just as he cracked the door open a sliver, a great goose was hurled out from inside, frightening him so badly that he jerked backward, afraid of being caught in the crossfire. He hurriedly shut the door again. Looking back, he saw the goose sprawled on the ground, motionless, its beak constantly letting out pitiful cries. Its whole body had been beaten so badly it looked utterly ruined.
When Handsome opened the door again to see what was happening inside, he was utterly convinced by Wang Zixuan’s swordsmanship and footwork. Just now, it had really been his own interference that had kept Wang Zixuan from fully showing his skill.
Unable to bear that kind of shock, he closed the door and steadied himself. When he opened it again, he held up his phone and started taking pictures. The shutter flashed repeatedly. Beneath the storm of feathers, Wang Zixuan looked indescribably magnificent.
Before long, he had used force to “persuade” all those unruly troublemakers into the detention center.
“You have violated Article Five, Item Nine of the Public Order Code: malicious assault. Article Fifteen, Item Two: unlawful use of special abilities. And Article Nine, Item Three: endangering public safety and human stability. Do you plead guilty?”
Inside the detention center, some sneered, some were disdainful, and some remained unmoved.
A prisoner named Qin Li said, “Those who keep mistresses, take lovers, embezzle, wallow in corruption, live in luxury, and speculate for profit—you don’t go after them. Yet you’re sharp as a knife when it comes to us honest people. We are simply acting in the name of justice. Why should we plead guilty? What guilt is there to plead?”
Another man shouted, “That’s right! Acting in the name of justice!”
A few others joined in: “Acting in the name of justice! Acting in the name of justice...”
Wang Zixuan could no longer stand their endless noise and shouted, “Shut up, all of you! Who gave you the right? You trample the law underfoot, all of you. The lot of you are already enough to be detained.”
Qin Li said, “Detain us if you want. Once we get out, we’ll be heroes again. For the sake of upholding justice, it’s worth it.”
As he spoke, he covered his face with his hand, looking so bitterly earnest, as though burdened with lofty ideals. The others came over and gathered around him, offering encouragement.
Handsome said, “Big sister, you’re angry now. Just look at how worked up you are.”
Wang Zixuan snapped, “Which side are you on? Why are you joining the commotion?”
Handsome said, “No, no, I’m just reminding you. You have to stay calm. It’s no big deal. We’ve got evidence. Even if they’re stubborn as dead ducks and refuse to say a word, we can still fine them all the same.”
