Chapter Fifty-Eight: A Battle of Wits and Courage
Wang Zixuan said, “I know Zhu’s contact. I’ll give you his number, get in touch with him. Tell him you’re with me and he’ll sort things out for you. His name’s Gu Weimin.”
After hanging up, he sent Gu Weimin’s number over. At that moment, Gu Weimin was studying a photograph, deep in thought. Just then, Zhou Ning came in carrying a file.
“President, here’s the intern’s personnel file,” Zhou Ning announced.
Gu Weimin reached out to open it, but after a moment’s hesitation, set it aside.
“There’s no need to submit his records to headquarters,” Gu Weimin said.
Zhou Ning leaned in, lowering his voice. “Come on, Old Gu, what’s this game you’re playing?”
Gu Weimin just smiled, giving nothing away.
Outside a supermarket, an agent whispered conspiratorially, “Have you heard? The lady boss brought back a celebrity. A real vixen, stunningly beautiful.”
A second agent chimed in, “We’ve got to go check that out.”
A third jumped in, “Is that for real? I’m coming too, count me in.”
“Easy, don’t all crowd in at once,” said the first agent.
“Move aside, give me some room!” the third pleaded.
“Don’t step on my feet!” the second exclaimed as the group jostled.
Wang Zixuan approached, and the agents felt a chill run down their backs. Turning around, they saw Wang Zixuan herself.
Wang Zixuan barked, “Move it!”
The three agents scattered like startled birds. Little Deng, standing to the side, didn’t budge.
“Um, boss, can I assist with the interrogation? I’m very professional,” Little Deng offered.
“Right now. This instant. Disappear,” Wang Zixuan snapped.
Little Deng vanished on the spot—though his clothes remained standing where he’d been.
“Even the clothes can’t stay,” Wang Zixuan muttered.
The next moment, a set of clothes floated out the door. Only then did Wang Zixuan enter the room. Inside, Hao Yingjun was eagerly offering his assistance.
“Please, have some coffee,” Hao Yingjun said, beaming.
But the moment he saw Wang Zixuan enter, he quickly took his seat.
“I just made this myself,” he explained.
Wang Zixuan tossed the case file onto the table. Wang Beibei, in the midst of stirring her coffee, paused, her gaze shifting to Wang Zixuan.
Wang Zixuan sat down, her tone tart as she addressed Hao Yingjun: “Not me.”
“Boss, why don’t you use this pot instead, just for now?” Hao Yingjun said, offering her the kettle.
Wang Zixuan shot him a glare, snatched up the kettle, and nearly hurled it at him.
“You ungrateful wretch!” Wang Zixuan scolded.
Startled, Hao Yingjun recoiled, only for Wang Zixuan to shove the kettle into his chest. He hurriedly caught it.
Wang Zixuan turned her gaze to Wang Beibei. “Didn’t you claim you weren’t the type to pass gas? So how come you did it in the mall, then?”
“Seems you’ve got a long memory for grudges, Miss Wang,” Wang Beibei replied.
Wang Zixuan shot her a look and said nothing.
Wang Beibei continued, “I hope you’re not settling personal scores here.”
“We ran a comparative test on the emissions. Yours and the sample from the scene match perfectly. What more is there to say?” Wang Zixuan retorted.
Hao Yingjun glanced at Wang Beibei, curious. Wang Beibei was silent for a moment.
“I really can’t comment on the accuracy of your test results,” Wang Beibei finally said. “But surely, you need motive and evidence to build a case. Why would I do something like that for no reason? And besides, who saw me do it?”
Hao Yingjun watched as Wang Beibei arched her brows, a look that could only be described as a sultry glance. At that moment, Wang Zixuan handed over a tablet, the screen displaying surveillance footage of Wang Beibei in the supermarket.
