Wang Zixuan sneered, “I knew you’d try something behind my back. So, how does it feel to get caught in the act?”

The Black-Clad Skeleton retorted, “How did you notice?”

Wang Zixuan replied, “Don’t flatter yourself thinking I’m blind to your tricks. I know your schemes better than you do. Isn’t it just that you want something from Lin Wan’er, hoping to use it against me? Want to know what it is? Come, I’ll tell you.”

The Black-Clad Skeleton scoffed, “Who do you think you are, that we’d bother targeting you? You’re overestimating yourself.”

Even as they spoke, two black spheres drifted out from the Black-Clad Skeleton—one shot straight toward Wang Zixuan, while the other darted off in a different direction.

Wang Zixuan smirked wickedly, “Thinking you can escape? You’re dreaming.”

He whipped out something resembling a tennis racket and swatted the black sphere heading for him, redirecting it toward the other one. Unexpectedly, the two spheres merged into a single larger black orb, which swiftly transformed into a giant black figure. The giant turned its gaze toward Wang Zixuan.

The giant growled, “Wang Zixuan, if you won’t let me go, then die!”

Without another word, the giant charged at Wang Zixuan, closing the distance in just a few steps. A massive foot came crashing down toward him.

Wan’er was still at his side, making it hard to maneuver. He had no choice but to seize her and float backward, dodging as he fired his gun around them. The giant's foot pounded after Wang Zixuan, and at first, the giant seemed to enjoy the chase. But after twenty minutes without landing a single blow, frustration set in.

The giant’s attacks grew faster and more frenzied. When Wang Zixuan was finally cornered, both he and the giant wore sinister smiles. The giant believed he could finally crush this pesky insect.

Just as the giant’s foot was about to come down, Wang Zixuan fired another shot beneath it, then slapped his hand to the ground. Suddenly, a pentagram flared to life, radiating a blinding light that enveloped the giant.

Caught in the brilliance, the giant thrashed in agony, and in moments, he vanished without a trace. Far away, a figure in black robes coughed up a mouthful of blood.

The black-robed man muttered, “I didn’t expect that girl to be so formidable. Impressive... but I’m not one to be trifled with. If I can’t bring you down, I’ll destroy you instead.”

At that moment, confusion and pain twisted Wan’er’s face. Her skin darkened to a deep purple as she clutched her throat and collapsed, legs kicking desperately against the floor.

Wang Zixuan slapped his own face in exasperation. “For crying out loud, do these bastards never give up?”

With that, he spun on the spot and disappeared. When he reappeared, he was in Wan’er’s room, where she lay on the bed, black mist seeping from her body, hands clutching her throat, white foam bubbling from her lips, legs thrashing on the mattress.

Wang Zixuan sighed, “Can’t they ever come up with something new?”

He propped Wan’er up and sent a surge of golden energy into her body. Suddenly, a shadowy figure tilted out of her, only to slip back inside.

Wang Zixuan chuckled, “Not bad, you’ve got some tricks.”

He sent another blast of golden energy into her. The shadow nearly emerged, but darted back in at the last instant. Losing patience, Wang Zixuan traced a small formation with gold light and pressed it into Wan’er’s body. This time, the shadow faded considerably—most of it forced out. Wang Zixuan yanked the shade free, laid Wan’er gently down, then kneaded the shadow and stuffed it into a bottle.
