Chapter 84: The Investigation Begins
Hao Yingjun hurriedly said, “This is truly an outrage that everyone should condemn, whether human or demon. Big Sister, just give the order. As a member of the supermarket, I, Hao Yingjun, will fight this goose to the very end.”
Everyone present gave him a strange look, their eyes full of disdain.
Wang Zixuan replied, “Good, good, good. As a trainee agent, your sense of duty is commendable. Everyone should learn from this. Duan Peng, play the surveillance footage again.”
The video was played for everyone to watch. Wang Zixuan continued, “After committing the act, the goose ran straight into the security room of the residential compound and hasn’t come out since. The person in the footage is highly suspicious.”
She zoomed in on the video, but since it was nighttime, the image remained blurry and indistinct. Just then, Hao Yingjun, who had barely sat down, jumped up again.
He exclaimed excitedly, “Big Sister, what are we waiting for? I really can’t take it anymore!”
With that, he dashed out at a run, leaving the scene awkwardly silent. The remaining people all looked to Wang Zixuan, who was left speechless. She grabbed her water cup and left as well. After they got in the car and had driven for a while, Wang Zixuan couldn’t help but ask, “Why so enthusiastic? Up to some mischief again, aren’t you? Why not tell me about it?”
Hao Yingjun replied, “Big Sister, don’t look at me with such contempt. After all this time training, I’m more and more convinced that our work at the supermarket is truly meaningful. Being a part of it fills me with immense pride. Hahaha.”
Wang Zixuan asked, “Really? Why do I get the feeling you’re just afraid of the bracelet shocking you?”
Hao Yingjun nodded, “Mm.”
Wang Zixuan shot him a sidelong glance, thinking his integrity was shattered beyond repair.
Hao Yingjun continued, “But I believe that everything has its own constraints and rules. In fact, it’s precisely because of these constraints and rules that I can improve so quickly.”
Wang Zixuan looked at him with contempt and shook her head, “You really are cut from the same cloth as Old Gu. So… Should I give you a shock now to help you progress?”
At the mere mention of being shocked, Hao Yingjun instantly tensed up, turning his head stiffly to look at Wang Zixuan, who smiled sweetly at him.
He forced a smile, “I don’t think that’s necessary, is it?”
Wang Zixuan said, “Then you’d better tell the truth.”
Hao Yingjun replied, “Ever since I put on this bracelet, I know I can’t escape—everything’s under control anyway. So I might as well do my job and learn to love it. Rather than slacking off, why not put some effort in and achieve something? Does that answer satisfy you?”
Inside, Wang Zixuan felt a thousand mythical beasts stampeding by, yet had no idea how to get angry.
She said, “Barely acceptable. We’ll see how you do in the future.”
When they arrived at their destination, they spent over an hour observing from a discreet vantage point.
Hao Yingjun said, “Hey, the security guards—both those on duty and those switching shifts—look almost identical to the one in the footage.”
Wang Zixuan replied, “Weren’t you the one so desperate to rush out? You didn’t even check the information or study the footage carefully.”
Hao Yingjun said, “Come on, the goose’s crime has already spread online. I was worried it might flee out of guilt. That’s a valid concern, right?”
Wang Zixuan took a Polaroid camera out of her bag.
She said, “Luckily, I brought this.”
Hao Yingjun said, “Big Sister, the first rule in our equipment manual is to use our gear discreetly.”
