Seeing the scene, Hao Yingjun quickly pulled Wang Zixuan aside, fearing she might lose her temper. When this elder sister loses her temper, she forgets all familial ties.
Hao Yingjun said, “Sister, sister, please don’t get angry yet. Don’t be upset. Look, there are so many people and this place is so big. This is how things get done here. How about this—we investigate on our own.”
Wang Zixuan, still angry, ignored him and crumpled the map in her hands before tossing it onto the ground.
Wang Zixuan said, “What’s the point of checking without a permit?”
Hao Yingjun carefully bent down to pick it up.
Wang Zixuan added, “All weapons and equipment are strictly forbidden.”
Hao Yingjun replied, “That’s your way of thinking. The suspect has no identity, so if anything stirs up, she’ll definitely run. We can’t follow the formal procedures. We can pretend to be tourists and investigate in a human way ourselves.”
After saying this, he shot Wang Zixuan a glance, then turned and threw the map into the trash bin. Having discarded the map, Hao Yingjun reached for his phone.
Hao Yingjun said, “Oh right, we need to scan a code for the shared bikes.”
Wang Zixuan hit him lightly. “What code? Hurry up and go, isn’t that embarrassing enough already?”
Hao Yingjun said, “It’s to save money.”
But when the leader’s around, just follow along. The two took a taxi and toured many sights, having a great time—Sanlitun, Uniqlo, the Bird’s Nest, and the Water Cube. But the joy was short-lived when they ran into a huge traffic jam. This kind of congestion really made people anxious.

As soon as they got off the car, Hao Yingjun quickly said, “Hey, sister, I was thinking—could I give it a try later?”
Wang Zixuan casually replied, “Why?”
Hao Yingjun said, “Because we haven’t been authorized to use equipment to erase memories. I’m afraid throughout this process you won’t be able to fight or curse. If you get all pent up, that wouldn’t be good.”
Wang Zixuan’s long legs came to an abrupt stop, her slender waist bending as she looked at Hao Yingjun with displeasure.
Wang Zixuan said, “What do you mean by that?”
Hao Yingjun said, “Nothing, nothing. I just spent last night carefully studying the interrogation procedure at home. Could I please try it out?”
He locked eyes with Wang Zixuan, then earnestly took her hand and said, “I earnestly request the organization to let me practice.”
Wang Zixuan quickly pulled her hand away, flicking it. “Fine, fine. Go ahead.”
Hao Yingjun looked puzzled, glanced around, and made a gesture of invitation. “You go first.”
Wang Zixuan gave him a cool glance and strode off with long strides, while Hao Yingjun followed behind, looking a bit unmotivated.
At the school gate, a middle-aged guard was leisurely munching sunflower seeds while listening to the radio. Seeing Wang Zixuan and Hao Yingjun, he loudly stopped them.
Guard: “Hey, hey, hey. What are you doing here?”

Hao Yingjun quickly grabbed Wang Zixuan and said hurriedly, “Brother, brother, honestly, I’m not a student here, nor a teacher.”
Guard: “No outsiders allowed in here.”
Wang Zixuan tried to push through but was stopped again by Hao Yingjun.
Hao Yingjun said, “What are you doing? Why the rush?”
Wang Zixuan looked at Hao Yingjun in disbelief, thinking, How dare you treat me like this?
Hao Yingjun ignored her and addressed the guard, “Brother, um…”
He glanced at the guard’s name tag, then spoke with a voice full of feeling, “Brother, you might not recognize me, but I know you.”
Wang Zixuan suddenly looked toward the guard, who returned Hao Yingjun’s gaze with a peculiar expression.
